Treasure Hunters

Treasure Hunters is a no-prep warmer activity for recycling vocabulary. Two teams of students compete to find cards as quickly as possible.

Pre Teach

As this is a recycling activity, it is best done as a game at the end of a lesson featuring the vocabulary topic (for example clothes, colours, jobs) or at the beginning of the following lesson as a warmup. The speed and time pressure element forces students to think quickly in English.

What You Need

1x DimmiDeck Per Team

Lesson Plan

  1. Choose a vocabulary topic and divide the class into two equal teams. For teams of more than three or four students, it may be best to have them stand round a table with their deck laid out in front of them.
  2. Elicit team names and explain that you will read a list of items to find in the deck. For example, if studying clothing, prepare a list of clothing items to be found. Alternatively, mix it in with other vocabulary as a more general refresher.
  3. Read through the list one at a time. For each word the team which finds it the fastest wins a point.
  4. The team with the highest score at the end wins!

Notes

Remember – there are lots of fun little secret items hidden in the DimmiDeck that whilst not fitting a particular vocab set could be fun to look for. Mix it up and have students look for random things, such as a dog, a fish, a bunch of grapes, a star, a football, a martini glass, a knife, a tomato, a tie, a cup of coffee or anything else you spot!
